Deactivate a key
1 min read
If you no longer use a key — or it needs to be stopped now — you can deactivate it. Keys cannot be deleted outright; deactivating is how you remove a key.
How to do it
- Go to API keys (avatar → My API keys) and find the key.
- Click the disable icon (Disable key) — in the list or on the key's page.
- Confirm with Disable in the dialog.
What happens
- All calls with the key are rejected immediately with 401 Unauthorized.
- The key moves to the archive at the bottom of the Keys page, so you keep its history and usage stats.
- A deactivated key cannot be reactivated. If you need it again, create a new one.
Check first: Make sure no active integrations use the key before deactivating it — otherwise they'll break. If in doubt, [rotate](roter-en-noegle) instead.
