Create an API key

1 min read
  1. Open API keys: click your avatar in the top right and choose My API keys (or use the My keys card on the Overview).
  2. Click New key.
  3. Give the key a name you'll recognise (e.g. "Production" or "Test app").
  4. Choose the type: Private key (live, for your server) or Public key (pub) (for the browser). If you choose public, you must add the domains (origins) the key may be used from — without them every call is rejected. See Live vs. public keys.
  5. Under Access, choose Full access or Restricted access — which parts of the API (scopes) the key may use.
  6. Click Create key.
Important: The secret key value is shown only once. Copy it immediately and store it somewhere safe. If you lose it, [rotate the key](roter-en-noegle).

The number of active live keys depends on your plan. When you hit the limit, disable an old key or upgrade.
