DAWA closes on 1 October 2026 — what do I need to do?

1 min read

The Danish Agency for Climate Data (Klimadatastyrelsen) is closing DAWA (the Danish Addresses Web API) on 1 October 2026. The underlying data continues in DAR (the Danish Address Register) via Datafordeleren, but the open DAWA API goes away — so calls to dawa.aws.dk and api.dataforsyningen.dk stop working.

How to switch

  1. Create a free key — Hobby gives 1,000 calls a month without a payment card.
  2. Change the base URL from api.dataforsyningen.dk (or dawa.aws.dk) to https://api.danskadresseapi.dk/dawa.
  3. Send the key as Authorization: Bearer <your-key> — or as ?token=<your-key>.

Paths, parameters and JSON format are the same as in DAWA, so you do not need to change your parser.

# Before
https://api.dataforsyningen.dk/adresser?q=Rådhuspladsen 1
# After
https://api.danskadresseapi.dk/dawa/adresser?q=Rådhuspladsen 1

Fields that are no longer updated

A few fields had DAWA as their only source and are frozen as of 1 October 2026: height, brofast (fixed link), spelling check and bulk-mail recipients (stormodtagere). They are still in the response but no longer change.
